6 Twitter Auto-DMs We’re All Tired Of Getting

I don’t know who was the first person to come up with the idea of automatically sending a private message to everyone who follows you on Twitter, but it was a really bad idea, and has rendered the DM function almost useless. I know many people who don’t even check their DMs anymore because 99% of them are auto-DMs. The 1% that are legitimate messages just drift off into Twitter oblivion.

Twitter really should just ban auto-DMs. They’ve banned apps that auto-follow; surely more common sense can’t be far behind.

If you’re wondering if your auto-DM is annoying, the answer is most likely yes.┬áI’ve seen a few — very, very few — that were funny or clever. That’s out of 10,000 or so. (Just rounding here. I haven’t actually archived or counted my DMs.) Those are pretty low odds.

If you’re still not sure, I’m happy to spell it out for you (and vent a little in the process). Continue reading

A Post About Marriage That Has Something For Everyone… To Get Mad About

I rarely post about political or controversial subjects on this blog. (I reserve that stuff for Facebook.) But this whole marriage thing is annoying me. And it has nothing to do with my personal beliefs. I believe that what I believe is true and “the way it should be” but you may believe something different, and frankly, it’s not my place to tell you that what you believe is wrong. Add that to the fact that over the past few years, some of my beliefs have changed. Not necessarily just religious beliefs, but social and political ones as well. Having convictions is good (and necessary, I believe) but we also need to be open to listening to rational discussions from those with whom we disagree. You may not change your mind, but you might accidentally learn something if you talk to someone with a differing opinion. Continue reading

Parking spot stalkers

I need to work on being more regular with posting. I’m always thinking of things to write about–when I’m away from my computer. Like how Jeffrey can spell most of his name. He was calling up the stairs the other day, “Can someone come help me?” I went down to see what he needed. He was playing on Nick, Jr and there was a game where he needed to his name. He had JEFF. I just had to help him with the RE. He got the Y by himself.

Or that he knows the names of several states by their location on a map and also by their shape. I didn’t “teach” him that. It was just something that he was interested in and kept asking me questions about. There are public high school grads who don’t know as much geography as he does.

He can also count backward from 13 to 1. Not a big deal unless you consider that he did it by himself. Hmm. Is there a theme here?

Anyway, my post today is not about my smart, funny, cute…..what? Oh, right. One of my pet peeves is parking space stalkers. You’re walking out to your car, usually with a full buggy (or cart, depending on where you’re from), with kid(s) in tow, and some car starts following you to your car. Then they just SIT there for 10 minutes while you unload the cart, get kid(s) in the car, get everything situated, take the cart to the little corral thing, and then they’re in the way when you try to back out. Grrr. If they’re going to sit there waiting to pounce, they could at least get out and help unload the groceries.
