Alexandra Martin didn’t believe in fairytales…
Alex has always been more interested in rocks and science than stories about princesses and magic. Now she’s far too busy with her summer internship at the Gem and Mineral Museum to think about children’s stories. Between avoiding her former best friend and high school baseball star, Luke Reed, and trying to hide her unrequited crush on her mentor at the museum, the real world is occupying all of her time. Ninth grader, Megan, navigates wild parties, hot guys, and backstabbing friends in this teen drama.
*** A hopeful Megan Miller begins high school anticipating hot make-out sessions on the fifty yard line of the football field, living it up at parties, and ruling the ninth grade with her besties. Alex Aguilar, most notable for his big brown eyes and big heart is one of the most sought after guys at Carver High School. When Megan and Alex meet during the summer, there’s no denying she’s interested. Alex tries to hide his feelings but everyone can see his heart belongs to Meg, no matter who his girlfriend is. Will this adorable couple make it through all the crap that’s thrown their way? Or will Meggie end her ninth grade year, just as it started: with a broken heart?
*** In this young adult novel, Megan Miller doubles as a straight “A” honors student and a frequent flyer at all the right parties. This girl is by no means headed for the library or study sessions to cram for the next science exam. She and her friends are on the prowl for hot guys and events to fill their social calendars. Meg already has her eye on one guy in particular, Alex Aguilar, who not only happens to be a football player, but he’s a SENIOR! But do these minor details get in the way of Meg’s fun? Meg is determined to make her freshman year at Carver High an unforgettable one. Who knows…she may get more than she bargained for.
I’m not sure why I didn’t like So I’m a Double Threat
. Possibly because it reminded me of the very worst parts of high school. Possibly because none of the characters were likable. Really. None of them. Not one person in this book is someone I would like to hang out with, especially not if I were in high school. Alex gets an “almost likable”, but that’s pretty much it. I feel like I must have missed something because this book got such great reviews on Goodreads, but I’m not going to reread to see what it was.
