#BlogFlash2012 Day 27: History

I love history. Real history, not memorizing meaningless dates from a textbook.

I’ve always loved listening to older people talk about the way things were “back then”. I love reading memoirs written by those who grew up in a time I can only read about and imagine.

I love historical fiction. Someone who has much more patience than I ever could takes a real event (or events) that I may have never even heard of, throws in a few fictional characters, and suddenly history is alive for me in a way it never was in school.

#BlogFlash2012 Day 25: Blue

You may have noticed (or not) that I skipped almost two weeks of this challenge. I was without internet for five days and I’ve spent so much time trying to catch up with everything, that I gave myself permission to just pick up where I am rather than trying to make up for all the days I missed.

These days, my favorite color is purple, but when I was a kid, blue was my absolute favorite color. One summer, I went to spend a week with my aunt and uncle and came home to a newly-painted-blue room, new blue sheets and comforter, and blue curtains. That was pretty cool.

Now blue is Jeffrey’s favorite color. When he was four, he asked his dad if he could paint his room blue. At the store, he picked out Spongebob Blue. I guess it’s supposed to be an ocean blue or something, because Spongebob is actually yellow. So, in case you ever wondered what Spongebob Blue paint looks like, this is it. (That’s a Pokemon poster. The blue in the poster was conveniently the same shade of blue.)

#BlogFlash2012 Day 12: Celebration

I had something completely different planned (and written), but I decided it was too negative for a Celebration post. So, as I’m working on a time crunch, racing against the battery graphic on my laptop, enjoy this picture of Jeffrey’s birthday party. Several years ago. The baby in the background is the now-four-year-old Bennett.

#BlogFlash 2012 Day 11: Greed

Isn’t that a cute picture?

Too bad greed isn’t cute.

Jeffrey and I were just talking last night about GMO crops and how Monsanto has ruined not only our current food supply, but our future supply as well. Because of greed. Not corporate greed. There is no such thing as corporate greed. Corporations don’t have emotions. The greed of people who already have more than they can ever use or spend, yet want even more.

#BlogFlash2012 Day 10: Success

I can’t decide whether I want to talk about long-term success in life, or day-to-day successes. Hmm…

We all have different ideas of what long-term success looks like, but I believe we should celebrate all of our “little” successes. When you get 100 blog followers, or sell 100 books, instead of wishing you had more, stop and celebrate. Then plan for your next goal so you can celebrate your next level of success. 🙂

#BlogFlash2012 Day 9: Journey

If this were a music blog, I could write about Journey’s greatest hits.

If it were a travel blog, I could write about the journeys I’ve taken in the past few months: Georgia to Arkansas, Arkansas to Missouri, Arkansas to Georgia. Okay, so I write about about those a little here anyway.

I think my most important journey in the past year is one of self-discovery. Or self-REcovery. For many years, I forgot who I was inside, and I’m still on the edge of learning about myself again. I’m learning to be confident in my talents and abilities. I’m learning that I have talents and abilities. This journey will never end, but I do hope it gets easier with more practice.

#BlogFlash2012 Day 8: Relaxing

It seems like I can’t even remember what it feels like to relax. I wasn’t just busy this weekend, I’m busy all the time. I hardly sleep, I rarely watch TV, I try to cut back on commitments, and there still isn’t enough time for everything. *sigh*

But every now and then, I give myself permission to do nothing for a little while. I make a cup of peppermint tea, get a book that I don’t have to review, and hole up in the bedroom for 2-3 hours to just relax and read. I feel more relaxed just reading that. 🙂
