Life Just Sucks Sometimes

Life Just Sucks Sometimes

I don’t care who you are, life just sucks sometimes. My uncle lost his battle with liver cancer today, and my emotions are all over the place.

I’m angry because I’m so sick of cancer.

I’m heartbroken for my dear aunt who lost the love of her life. They didn’t have nearly enough time together.

I’m sad for my cousins who lost their father. They’re all in their 20s and 30s. That’s way too young to be without your dad.

I hurt for my cousins’ children, some of whom are not old enough that they’ll remember their grandpa when they’re grown. He adored his grandchildren and I know my cousins won’t let his memory fade away.

I’m feeling an almost-panic that it could very easily have been my dad. It was only 3 1/2 years ago that Daddy was diagnosed with colon cancer, then after a year-long fight and treatments, he got the all-clear. Then later that same week, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and had to undergo treatment for that. He’s cancer-free now, but the fear never goes away completely.

Kid Quotes (6/27)

I don’t know what I’m going to do when Bennett starts talking correctly. All my blog material will disappear.

Jeffrey was on the computer and Bennett asked him, “Can I play on the cow creator?” I thought it had something to do with MineCraft. No, it had something to do with numbers. As in, calculator.

B asked me this morning, “Who hid the melote?” He was trying to turn on the DVD player.

I have a rented mailbox at a Pack & Ship. Every time we go check the mail, Bennett looks up for the street number above the door, and says, “There’s the idress.”

We were hanging out with Jeffrey’s best friend yesterday, and Bennett was trying to tell L something, but none of us could figure out what.
B: Remember that day at the park when you showed us that weird way to _____?
L: Uh…
B: Are you hearing me?!?
L: Yeah, I’m just not sure…
B: That weird way to _____.
Me: We’re not sure what you’re saying. Fighting?
B: No.
J: Flying?
B: He’s not God! He can’t fly!
Somehow we finally figured out he was saying, “slide”.

I got a Super Swat in the mail the other day from The Pampered Chef.
B: Can I try it?
Me: Yeah–
B: On Jeffrey?
Me: No.

If you aren't familiar with it, this is a Super Swat.

If you aren’t familiar with it, this is a Super Swat.

Literary Addicts Weekly Meme – Which Character Would You Want as a Best Friend?

The theme of this week is –

What character would you want as a best friend?

Join our group HERE to find out next week’s theme!

My first thought was Eve Dallas, but I’m afraid she would kick my butt, so I’m going with Pippi Longstocking. When I was a kid, Pippi was the coolest thing going. She’s still pretty awesome.

Even “Good” Peer Pressure Can Be a Bad Thing

I’ve seen several blog posts recently about purity pledges and girls feeling pressured and stressed out about waiting until marriage to have sex. I never led a wild party lifestyle, but I wasn’t a virgin when I married, and trust me when I say, even if you’re not a Christian, it’s a lot less stressful to not have sex until you’re in a committed relationship. Not only do you not have the drama of the current hook-up, but you bring much less baggage into future relationships. Also, you knock your chances of having a “baby daddy” or “baby mama” way down.

But whether it’s about sex, the movies you watch, or the language you use, if you’re doing it (or not doing it) because someone told you “this is the way it should be”, then the results won’t be long-lasting, and it’s pointless.  Continue reading

WordCount Blogathon Theme Day: Haiku

Today is another theme day for the WordCount Blogathon: Haiku. I have never written a haiku in my life and I don’t write poetry of any type, be it rhyming or non-rhyming, so this may be a challenge.

When my kids giggle
It wiggles into my heart
Laughs and love abound

Okay. Not horrible. I wrote that on the fly, just now. All that planning down the drain. 🙂
