Survey Results Part 5: Review & Giveaways

I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions, but if I did, the first one would be to make more time to blog. Because it’s taken me way too long to finish posting the results of the survey I took in September. *sigh* These are the questions that didn’t fit in the other categories, most have to do with reviews and giveaways.

What do you think of my reviews?

I like most of them. 14 41%
I love them. Don’t change anything. 12 35%
Other 6 18%
I don’t read your reviews. 2 6%
I don’t really like your reviews. 0 0%

“Other” replies
“I haven’t been following long so I don’t think I’ve read any of them yet”
“I really enjoy your writing.”
“I only read then if the book sounds like something I might want to read, so only occasionally”

I’m glad to see that most of you who read the reviews enjoy them. ๐Ÿ™‚

Any thoughts on how I can improve my reviews?

“Nothing comes to mind, Amanda. I really enjoy your blog.”
“Nope you’re doing great!”
“No improvement ideas in particular .. I think you do a good job painting a picture of what to expect when/if I pick up the book, which is *exactly* what I look for in a review.”

I’ll tell you a secret, but you have to promise not to tell. *whispers* The reason it took so long to get the results posted is that I was basking in the glow of your kind words… Okay, not really. I’m just behind. But my love language is “words of praise” so it really does make me feel great to “hear” that you all think I’m going a good job. ๐Ÿ˜€

What kind of reviews do you prefer?

Short reviews 26 79%
Funny reviews 14 42%
Reviews with no spoilers 13 39%
Serious reviews 10 30%
Long reviews 8 24%
Reviews with minor spoilers 2 6%

(Voters could select more than one checkbox, so percentages may add up to more than 100%.)

Short, funny reviews with no spoilers coming right up. I can be pretty silly and/or snarky most of the time, so serious probably won’t happen unless the book is about a serious subject.

Do you ever comment on this blog?

Yes 17 52%
No 16 48%

Hmmm… I don’t get many comments, so methinks some of you have this blog confused with Single Dad Laughing or some blog that actually gets comments… I’ll let it slide this time. You can start commenting to make it up to me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you answered, “no”, can you tell me why you don’t comment?

“[Edited to remove identifying information]ย The internet in general is just too public for my comfort level. Written language is not my best form of communication.”

“It’s never occurred to me.”

“Shy, not sure what to say” (This one’s obviously not a blogger. We always have something to say.)

“Um, I guess I don’t think my thoughts are relevant to the topic.” (What does relevancy have to do with anything? Do you read my blog? I’m all over the place. Nothing is relevant here.)

“Not really one to comment.”

“no reason, yet!” (Ah, I’ll have to work harder to find something you disagree with. That always gets people going.)

“I generally don’t comment on blogs unless they really hit a hot button for me or sometimes when an author asks specifically for comments or requires comments to enter a drawing for something I want to win. I browse literally dozens of blogs on a daily basis with my RSS reader, and since I have limited time, I would rather read more blogs than comment on fewer blogs :)” (On behalf of my fellow bloggers, I’d like to say thanks for spreading the love!)

There were a few more similar comments so blogging friends, take heart! Readers are there. They just prefer reading over commenting. ๐Ÿ™‚

I only enter giveaways for books I really want 21 66%
I prefer giveaways that let you choose your own prize 13 41%
None of the above 5 16%
I don’t like having to post a comment or answer a question to enter 4 13%
I don’t like giveaways that require you to follow the blog 2 6%

(Voters could select more than one checkbox, so percentages may add up to more than 100%.)

I just included that first one out of curiosity, but I’m glad to see that most people don’t enter giveaways if they’re not interested in the prize. Thank you. That leaves the prizes for those that really want them. I don’t usually like giveaways that make you leave a comment, so I was surprised that more people didn’t choose that option.

What is your preferred method of giveaway entry?

Rafflecopter 20 69%
Commenting 10 34%
Other 4 14%
Giveaway Tools 2 7%
Punchtab 1 3%

(Voters could select more than one checkbox, so percentages may add up to more than 100%.)

“Other” responses

“Doesn’t matter, just give me something” (Why do I suspect you’re related to me?)

“Easy entry forms with Extra Info boxes for different account info” (I’m guessing you’re talking about the Google Docs forms? I tried that and it was a huge hassle from the blogger’s side. I used a randomizer to pick a number, but if you have several entries per person, they’re all on the same line and you have some people who don’t use all the available types of entry, so you can’t just say, “I have 30 people who entered three different accounts, so that’s 90 options to put into the randomizer.” You have to count manually and I was always so worried about miscounting and picking the “wrong” winner. Rafflecopter, or other automated forms are so much less stressful for the bloggers.)

Sixty-nine percent of you prefer Rafflecopter. Okay, well, that’s pretty clear. Guess I’ll stick with Rafflecopter for now.

Anything I can do to improve my blog?

“I do not have any suggestions at this time, Amanda”

“sides could be cleaned up a little bit” (I have to admit I was surprised to see this one. I hardly have anything on my sidebars and I had even less in September when this survey was going on. Blogs that have sidebars that go on forever drive me crazy and I make an effort to keep my sidebars uncluttered. Sorry, but I don’t expect that you’ll see any improvement on this one.)

“Can never have too many giveaways!” (Lots of giveaways coming soon! Even more if you don’t mind hopping over to my other blog to enter.)

“Looks good!” (Thank you!)

“No its easy and simple to use. :)” (Good to know. ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Well, there you have it. Survey says, 100% of my readers are fabulous. Thanks for sticking around for another year.
