Book Reviews: The Everlasting and Fantastical Adventures of Elannah and Sam by Sean Noonan

Today I’m actually reviewing two books. Of Lights in the Night; Friends and Adventure: The Everlasting and Fantastical Adventures of Elannah and Sam and A First Christmas; Friends and Festivity: Book Two of the Everlasting and Fantastical Adventures of Elannah and Sam by Sean Noonan. These are chapter books for kids ages 9-12.

Amazon summary: Of Lights in the Night

Beyond the half-sleep lies a land of dreams where anything can happen….

Join Elannah and Sam as the half sleep takes them to their secret Tree-House in the Jungle … where they meet in their dreams.

This time they’re off to see Rodger the Badger, on their flying bikes – up, up into the night sky … and onto another everlasting fantastical adventure …

“An Adventure you say? On flying Bikes? And where do you suggest that we go on such a cold and bright night?”

“This is the perfect night for fireworks.” Sam stated. He was full of the fun filled memories from earlier in the evening.

“Yes. Fireworks.” Elannah backed Sam’s suggestion up and looked expectantly at the badger.

“Ah yes…. Fireworks.” Rodger removed his feathered cap and scratched his head. “Do you know where the best fireworks are to be seen on such a night as this?” A bright gleam came to his eyes and he looked pleased with the thoughts within his mind’s eye.

A delicious and delightful night of lights and laughter, music and magic. awaits them in the Great Northern Mountains, where the Great Wizard Grumphspawn tells us of his fireworks …

“I have a series of assorted sensations for you to enjoy this evening. Seven to be precise.” He paused for dramatic effect. “We will start off with the Goblin Racer, move on to the Highlander’s Delight; the Jolly Jester; the King’s Coronation Ball; the Long Light Liberation; the Parrots, Pirates and Pancakes Piratical Pyrotechnics; and finally the Troll’s Totally Titanic Terribly Triumphant Toothy Tongue Tingler!”

My review
This is a cute little book. It mostly serves as an introduction to the characters in the series. There is not a lot of action in this book; kids will have to use their imaginations (and that’s not a bad thing). Sean has created an amazing dream world where anything can happen. I want to see those fireworks. 🙂

Jeffrey’s review
As these are kid’s books, I asked Jeffrey (9) to read them and tell me what he thought. He said, “I like it, but there’s not much going on.” (After reading it, though, he declared that we’re keeping the books, so don’t look for these books in my weekly giveaway.)

Amazon summary: A First Christmas

Beyond the half-sleep lies a land of dreams where anything can happen….

Join Elannah and Sam as they drift off happily into the fantastical world of their dreams where they visit Rodger the Badger and the Bridge Troll for some festive fun…or so they think…until ….

“Well” Rodger said, “The Twelve Toed Ugly Troll never did celebrate Christmas”

“Never celebrated Christmas!?” Sam exclaimed incredulously, a look of such bewilderment on his face. All thoughts of missing presents were forgotten. “That’s not possible! What about his friends and family?”

“The Bridge Troll never knew his parents and, until the night of the fireworks, he has never had anyone to call a friend”

“This is not good.” Elannah stated thoughtfully. She mused for a second and then announced, “Let’s throw him a Christmas party, not just any Christmas party, but rather the best party there has ever been. We will make up for all the missing Christmases in this one night!”

From a harmless snowball fight to a terrifying tumble down the side of a mountain, a trek through the Mines of Abundance and the Magical Night Flower Garden. Will these traveling companions manage to gather the perfect ingredients to amaze and astound the Twelve Toed Ugly Troll!?

Follow Elannah, Sam and their dream world friends as they prepare for the most fantastical Christmas Party ever!

My review
Any action missing from Book One is all here in Book Two. Flying bikes, magical sleds, mining-car chases… and other fun stuff. (I don’t want to give it all away.) Kids also learn about giving to others and teamwork in a fun way. There are two more books coming and I can’t wait to read them!

Jeffrey’s review
“I really like this one!” (He’s a man of few words unless Pokemon is involved.)

  2. You're welcome, Sean! We enjoyed them! Now if I could just figure out why the formatting is screwy on this post so everyone could read it without a magnifying glass, everything would be great.
